Zingiber officinale
Description: Ginger grows underground in tuberous joints. Its stem is green which grows up to 3 feet tall. Its flowers are usually yellow or purple.
Habitat: Said to be a native of Asia. Cultivated in West Indies, Jamaica, Africa.

Uses: Medical research has shown that ginger root is an effective treatment for nausea caused by motion sickness or other illness. Chinese women traditionally eat ginger root during pregnancy to combat morning sickness.
Ginger has also been commonly used to treat inflammation. It may also have blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties,
making it effective in treating Heart disease.
